The life of a work-a-holic : Triathlon Training to the Rescue!

running-injuries

I think I’ve been doing fairly well the last few months. No serious breakdowns, even despite being injured and having to cut back on training…YET AGAIN! I think I’m overdue, but I’m trying very hard this time to stay positive. If you follow me on any of my social media outlets you might notice that I tend to post motivational and training related items for the most part. This is to keep myself focused. I learned a long time ago that you get out of life what you put into it. If your constantly putting out negativity, you will receive negativity. If you stay positive, positivity will find you.

And when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.” – Paulo Coelho

Balancing life and work can be difficult for anyone, but when you factor in a 7 day work week AND training, well, things just get down right nuts. Honestly though, the benefits of my training far outweigh the stress. It’s the only release I have sometimes.

In one of my last posts I mentioned that I have been dealing with tarsal tunnel which has kept me from running (Dr’s orders). In a way this has been incredibly helpful because I needed the downtime but it’s also driving me bonkers! I’m an endurance junkie for crying out loud! The Dr has me on a stretching routine and a night splint to stretch out my achellies tendon.
Reminds me of medieval times!
As you can see, nothing about this thing is comfortable.

Doesn’t it look awsome?! I don’t care how frightening it looks, it’s been working and my pain has subsided during daily activity. I still haven’t been allowed to run but the Dr is hopeful we can try soon. Just waiting on an orthotic insert for my shoes.

Thankfully I’m also an aspiring triathlete so I’ve been using this time to focus on my swim and bike training. My brother-in-law and I attended my first spin class last week. Fell in LOVE! Let me just first say that I ride my bike indoors at home on the trainer but the bikes they have for spin class….AH-MAZING!!! There was such a difference. I’m seriously considering purchasing one for the house. For now, I’ll just have to stick to using the gym bikes, I don’t want my husband to kill me for spending the money. When we left this spin class I was literally drenched in sweat and my face was beet red, but I had a smile from ear to ear. I’m officially a convert!

His face though! He said he was just tired

I’ve really been down about the lack of running being that it’s my first love. The stress of working 7 days a week is starting to get to me again and without my usual running release, breakdowns always follow. Not to mention the added inches that have snuck into my clothes for the lack of cardio that I’m used to. What else is a girl to do to lift her spirits?! Go shopping!
I picked this sparkly gem up at: www.swimoutlet.com

When you have to be up at 5am to be at the pool by 5:30am you need some pretty awesome motiviation to get you going. Nothing motivates me like adding some sparkle to my day. I’ve also tried to take some time and actually do some weight lifting and strenth training while I’m at the gym. I’ve found some pretty awesome App’s that are targeted at triathlete and runner specific workouts. I may have to do a review on those at some point.

I call this the gym selfie workout. Targets the biceps and facial muscles 🙂

I hope you’re all having a wonderful and injury free season! I head back to the Dr in a few weeks to pick up my orthotic. I’m literally counting down the days to running freedom.

Happy running!
