Are you an athlete searching for a refreshing and nutritious beverage to boost your hydration? I’ve got you covered with this Ginger Lemon Green Juice! This invigorating drink is packed with essential nutrients and is low in calories, making it the perfect choice for pre or post-workout hydration.

I developed this Green juice recipe to enjoy after my early morning summer runs so that I can both hydrate and start my day with something healthy and delicious. The added caffeine from the Nuun Lemon Ginger flavor also gives me a nice pick me up post run.

What You’ll Need

Ingredients:

  • 4 medium Granny Smith apples
  • 2 cucumbers
  • 3 stalks of celery
  • 10 oz fresh spinach leaves
  • 4 tabs NUUN Vitamins – Ginger Lemonade
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 thumb-sized knob of ginger

Tips:

  • Granny Smith Apples: Substitute with other tart apples like Braeburn or Honeycrisp if unavailable.
  • NUUN Vitamins: Can be found in most health stores or online.

How to Make

Process:

  1. Prep the Ingredients: Wash all produce thoroughly. Core and quarter the apples, peel and chop the cucumbers, and cut the celery into smaller pieces. Squeeze the lemon juice.
  2. Juicing: Add the apples, cucumbers, celery, spinach, and ginger to a blender. Blend until smooth.
  3. Juicing: Pour the mix into the nut milk bag and strain.
  4. Mix: Dissolve the NUUN Vitamins tabs in 3 cups of water and mix with the juice.
  5. Serve: Pour into a glass and enjoy immediately, or refrigerate to enjoy throughout the week.

Variations

  • Add Kale: For an extra nutrient boost, add a handful of kale.
  • Sweeten with Honey: If you prefer a sweeter juice, add a spoonful of honey.
  • Add Mint: For a refreshing twist, add fresh mint leaves.

FAQs

Can I use frozen spinach? Yes, frozen spinach can be used, but fresh spinach provides the best flavor and nutrients.

What if I don’t have a nut milk bag? You can use a juicer, if you have one. If not, you can blend the ingredients and strain using any strainer, such as a cheesecloth or fine sieve or enjoy as a blended smoothie. 

What if I don’t like caffeine? You can also use the standard Lemon Lime sport, if you don’t want caffeine or use any other electrolyte tablets or powders, or simply add a pinch of salt to enhance hydration.

How to Store and Reheat (or Make Ahead)

Storing: Store the juice in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Make Ahead: You can prep the ingredients the night before and store them in the fridge, making it easy to juice in the morning or throughout the week.

What to Serve With It

Pair this Ginger Lemon Green Juice with a light snack like a protein bar, a handful of nuts, or a banana for a balanced post-workout snack. Ingredients
  

  • 4 medium granny smith apples
  • 2 cucumbers
  • 3 stalks of celery
  • 10 oz fresh spinach leaves
  • 4 tabs NUUN Vitamins - Ginger lemonade
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 thumb sized knob of ginger

Instructions
 

Prep

  • Wash and dry all produce
  • Cut apples, cucumbers, and celery into blender sized chunks

Make

  • Blend apples, cucumbers, celery, spinach, and ginger in blender on high with 1 cup of water.
  • Continue to blend all ingredients until smoothie consistency. Adding additional 1-2 cups of water as needed.
  • Open nut milk bag and set inside large cup or pitcher with the edges draped around the the rim.
  • Pour the green smoothie mix into the nut milk bag and strain. You will need to close the bag and squeeze tightly to release the juice from the pulp.
  • Remove the pulp from the bag and repeat as necessary until all of the pulp is juiced.
  • Dissolve 3 tabs of NUUN vitamins – Ginger lemonade in remaining water.
  • Combine dissolved Nuun mixture with juice and pour evenly into glass bottles or mason jars
  • Chill and enjoy with breakfast, post workout, or throughout the day for a refreshing and energizing drink!
