Training Check-In: Where have I been?

Well it’s been a while since my last post, about a month to be exact. Honestly, I have just had so much on my plate this summer and I’m not racing at the moment either. The combination of the two has really left me inspiration-less. I hate to admit it, but it’s true. I guess it happens sometimes. We all get busy and distracted, right?

So, if I haven’t been racing what HAVE I been up to? So glad you asked! Just working and having fun really.

As I  mentioned in a previous post, I’ve started working part-time with Nuun Hydration as a field Hydration Specialist. This is the busiest time of year since it’s warm and there are a ton of races and events taking place. I’ve been working my full-time job (Mon-Fri) as well as for Nuun at least two-three times a month.

I can’t complain though. I’ve worked two jobs A LOT in the past, especially when I was in college and, let me tell you, that *ish* was HARD. Working with Nuun it’s a way better experience. I only work a few hours each event and I’m out in the fresh air having fun with other athletes. Sometimes, it’s hard to even call it a job. The only caveat is that I have to wake up early on the weekends to set up the Nuun booth before the events start. Which sometimes can be as early as 5am….on a Saturday! Ugh. Luckily, I get to work in my active wear. Some days I just get up throw on a cap and stretchy pants and I’m out the door.

Early in the season my daughter raced her first triathlon. I also happened to be working that event for Nuun. I recruited my husband to help out and between the two of us we covered the course for her and manned the Nuun booth. It was so much fun to do all of that as a family.

I also worked the Wounded Warrior half marathon which turned out to be a big event. I was set up right next to the Marines. Check out this gun! I tried to hold it on my own but I couldn’t. It was way too heavy for me.

This race really meant a lot to me because I recently lost a great childhood friend who was a marine and suffered from PTSD. After his death, his family’s only wish was that friends make contributions to the WW fund.
Just being there and honoring his memory made all the difference in the world. As you can see, I was a bit of tom boy growing up ha ha ha!



I’ve also been hanging out with the Dallas Fitness Ambassadors. Ginger from the Ginger Marie Blog and Jana from Barre in your bedroom hosted a fundraising event for the Movemeant Foundation. It was called Barre & Bites on the Bridge.

They actually held a Barre class on the Continental avenue bridge in Dallas. Talk about a good time! We had great music, awesome people, and delicious food too. I was able to share the Nuun love for her event while she raised money for an awesome cause. Seriously, how can you call this work?!

Over the next few months things should begin to slow down with Nuun as fall approaches. July is looking pretty busy however, and I’m super excited to end the season with a bang.

As for training, well, I’m taking it easy. I had a whole race calendar made out in January and it’s pretty much gone to crap. I raced in the PlayTri Festival in early May and that was the last race I did. I still need to write my race recap on that one. It’s in the works, I promise!


I’m actually hoping to race my first full Ironman in 2017. I’ve chosen Ironman Texas in April. The death of my race season has largely been caused by my lack of money while trying to save for IMTX. I just don’t want to spend money on smaller races this season, when I have such a big race I want to do next season. Even though it’s not confirmed yet, I still hope I can save enough money to register and FINALLY become an Ironman.

In the meantime, I have still be working out regularly. I run and bike a few times a week and still head to the gym on my lunch hour. I purchased the Be Iron Fit book by Don and Melanie Fink and read it front to back. I’m hoping to use the “Just finish” training plan to get me to IMTX. It’s a thirty week training program so I should start that early October, if all goes to plan of course!

’ve also been taking care of my sweet girl. The week after school ended we had her tonsils and adenoids removed. Something we have been wanting to do for years now. It was supposed to be a routine tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy however, we had several complications during the healing process. It’s been a month now and she is just now getting back to her normal self.

After two scary trips to the ER (note her lack of fear – just look at that ambulance selfie!), couple of overnight stays at the hospital and several bleed outs we’re finally starting to enjoy our summer.

We’ve been to the pool a few times and even enjoyed a family outing for my birthday to Shakespeare in the park. Doesn’t my son look amused?

Whew! When I look back at it all I feel like it sounds insane. I’ve really been having a great time though. Despite the medical issues with  my daughter, of course. Although, it was nice to feel needed and to be able to take care of her and love on her when she was going through such a tough time.

    Busy busy! It happens though. We all get caught up and need a mini hiatus from the blog world. Love what you're doing with NUUN and can't wait to see you soon.

  3. I suppose it wouldn't be as dreadful if the humidity wasn't so bad. I've never wish for fall as much as I do now lol
